Hello Module Two

 


Welcome back to the new term everyone and welcome to the new starters to MAPP programme. 

I remember feeling very overwhelmed the first few weeks with trying to figure out exactly what it was that I was supposed to be doing. Please do not panic if you feel that way! Reach out to any of us and I’m sure we can help point you in the right direction, and don’t forget you can book tutorials with your supervisors to help keep you on track. 

My advice to you would be to get all your RPL’s done before you start your module one essay. It will really broaden your thought process going into it and will have done most of the work for you.  

I’m not sure how you all do your research and reading but I found the writing workings with Peter Thomas extremely helpful and his exercise on free writing. The Mind Map has also become my best friend whilst gathering information. However, I am sure you’ll find your own path. 

I’m excited to begin Module 2 and start to filter down my area of inquiry. I have a couple of ideas but am looking forward to putting them into a framework and see where that takes me. 

I'm again feeling massively overwhelmed with it all with this module, especially looking at the zoom session times. I can't appear to make any of them so I feel very much like I'm going solo with this.

      Hi Lorraine, How are you? I'm just catching up with the zoom I couldn't attend, all very exciting!

      When I'm researching I tend to make Mind Maps of the research, so that when I come back to it, I can clearly see the topic, then the research I've discovered branching off into different areas. https://www.canva.com/graphs/mind-maps/ I've added the link to show what I mean.

Literature Review

  I hope you are getting on well with your studies. I am struggling with writing these blog posts. With the lack of interaction from colleagues and supervisors, it feels a bit pointless and disheartening sometimes. I suppose that is my ego taking over and my need to be externally validated. When really I suppose this is just another external output for our internal processes throughout this MA journey. As I head through Module 2 I must admit I am struggling with knowing the difference between all of the different submissions. The meaning making model, drawing on our past and present learning and practice. The title award rationale, just seems to be like a smaller version and the full essay. I can't help but have similar information and citations in them. Is anyone else feeling the same? Deferral

Unfortunately my Dad's health has deteriorated quite rapidly over the past 6 months and he has been (and continues to be) hospitalised for the past 5 weeks. His Vascular Dementia and Alzheimer's have progressed and Dad is now with palliative and end of life care. As much as I wanted to get this MA completed in time for my Dad to know I had completed it, I have had to make the difficult decision to defer. I will return to this hopefully in the next submission period, after spending all of the time I now can with my family. I wish the best of luck to all of the Module 3 students in my group for your submissions.

Sunday Night's Discussion continued

 So, let's try and see if we can eloquently convey the outcome of the discussion.  Information, Learning and Knowledge. What's the difference? When do they happen? Well after listening to everyone and inputting my own thoughts on the matter, I've come up with this.....for the moment. I believe that we receive information as the learner, we digest that information through the "filter of our own experience" (as quoted by Christopher Moore in the discussion) and the knowledge is then the  "factual information" (as quoted by Leroy in the discussion) and the way in which we transfer this to the next learner and the different vocabulary that we use to communicate this. I feel the learning never stops as we discover new ways of sharing this information and adapting it to the next learner's own individual filter of experience.
